If nothing else was achieved over the last year, we can certainly say that all of us at Highclere have, at various times, turned our hands to absolutely everything. From working at different desks, to picking and packing, sweeping up, clearing drains, potting up plants, filming on phones and feeding the pigs, we have done what we could to keep going, to help the Castle and farm breathe slowly and quietly so that we, as a team, could live to fight another day.

Filming in the rain and PR Hannah dancing in the rain..in slippers
Highclere’s business, like so many others, shuddered to a catastrophic halt in March and from that position, having gathered ourselves together, we had to work out a route forward. I still don’t find it very easy to look back at some of those times despite the beautiful spring weather and, like so many others, I and the team here have become increasingly tired. It was, in comparison, nothing compared to the real life skills and efforts of those in hospitals working relentlessly to be there when needed most – thank you – and the journey is far from over.

Filming with ITN Productions
“Life skills” used to be a somewhat amorphous concept that belonged in pep talks, magazines and self-help manuals but there is no doubt that necessity makes them materialise at speed. At their heart seems to be the ability to communicate empathy out of which flows creativity and from thence problem solving. Despite this I feel that some five years of discussion, planning and experience has been compressed into a few short months at break neck speed. There was nowhere to hide and the old adage that “when the tide recedes you can see what everyone is wearing” was particularly apt as the sheer distance the tide retreated made it clearer where the natural challenges would lie.
However, we have ended on a better note. We are once again open to the public in a cautious way and, as this year comes to an end, we have also completed an observational “ITN for Channel 4 Christmas at Highclere” documentary – which I hope also reinforces my book of the same name. The cameraman and assistant producer, Brent and Amy, were tasked with filming the build up to Christmas here including, given we were lucky enough to open, the earliest Christmas tours and teas. It is due to be shown, for better or worse, this coming Wednesday on Channel 4.

John descending in his lift
As for many others, it has been a wretched year both for those in front and those behind the TV cameras. There were no safe protocols in place during the first lockdown, just cancelled projects. a Highclere was in fact the first job this year for some of the ITN team so it was especially lovely to welcome them.
In true Highclere spirit, and to make them feel at home, there was running banter every time they were filming. In fact, often, they were laughing so much they could not hold the camera steady. We have found generally that one of the best ways to deal with the stress and exhaustion of this year has been humour – team spirit – and practical jokes. Quite a few of us grew up watching similar TV programmes, particular favourites being “The Two Ronnies”, (The Four Candles skit), “Are you Being Served” (Young Mr Grace and Mrs Slocombe), “Dads’ Army” and “Fawlty Towers” and many of our lines or antics are derived from these reassuring programmes that have made us laugh over the years.
Keen to film various ghosts, Brent and Amy were spooked most days by either John G, our Castle Manager, or myself sliding behind pillars. John G’s ability to tell tall stories with every utterance suggests he needs his own comedy show and he came up with a number of new ideas. One of my favourites was his very own lift. He would go into the half-glassed entrance to the Castle from the courtyard, pretend to press a lift button and then slowly crouch down as if the lift was descending into the ground. It is very effective and keeps him amused!
Sally from the gift shop was in full swing as chief elf and learning new presenting skills as she introduced ITN to her sheds and reindeer herd. They filmed us filming for Instagram, using phones as cameras set up with microphones and tripods, though not always if we forgot them or left them somewhere……Stories from Paul in the gardens, sorting out Christmas trees, my husband with the horses, and all of us preparing to welcome visitors adapting to a challenging world. Everyone has a tale to tell. I hope you enjoy it.
MY DEAR LADY CARNARVON,
GOOD EVENING,
I WOULD LIKE ALL THIS TO END SOON ,BUT THERE IS NOTHING THAT CHANGES THIS SOON…IT’S SAD TO SEE THE DESTRUCTION OF EVERTHING THAT IS TOOK YEARS TO BUILD…

Lady Carnarvon, A world of knowledge in your story today. You are so right, humour does ease the stress and in these hard times it feels so very good to laugh. Thank you. Best wishes to all, Cheryl
Dear Lady Carnarvon,
During such an extraordinary year of change and learning how to re-shape our lives with our family and friends I would like to thank you for continuing to share glimpses of life at Highclere…..
Your Monday morning blogs, Instagram posts & stories have continued to let us travel if not for a moment with mini happy holidays back to Highclere during a time when we are not so easily able to travel to the grocery store without thinking about our safety…..
We have enjoyed your resourcefulness, creativity and charm of not only yourself and Lord Carnarvon but your amazing Highclere team!
Merry Christmas,
Che’rie, Stephen & Chloé
You are kind, and I feel lucky to be part of this Monday club ..
Its been a horrible year that none of us will ever forget. Hang in there as better days are ahead.
Lady Carnarvon,
I’m Reading your book, it’s lovelly I must say.
Your are so strong, dealing with such responsability and humor.
Indeed as and still a year to modify us to increases our skills.
Regardless, for my family was very positive.

Best wishes for the hollydays and year to come.
Also another Brazilian.

I so enjoy your blog and these stories. I became familiar with Highclere through Downton Abbey, even though I lived in London for a few years; somehow I missed your castle. I loved Downton Abbey for many reasons- the fabulous acting, the beautiful setting, but also because it reminded me of my mother and grandmother and their beautiful manners, the way they dressed and dined. Seeing you tell stories and walk all around the property is such a treat. Especially since we can’t travel and see it for ourselves. Thank you so very much.

Thank you
Dear Lady Carnarvon, thank you very much for our wonderful Christmas Tour & Tea last Friday (11th December @ 11.30am) We had an amazing time – how very beautiful the Castle looked in her Christmas Decorations – never seen such enormous baubles! We had tea in the marquee, where we met Louis – I recognised him from “An American Aristocrat’s Guide to Stately Homes” which featured Highclere – & Louis! After that he looked after us personally, & we left felling like real “Ladies” – thank you SO much Louis! (I was the lady in the wheelchair) I’m sorry I didn’t get to meet you outside, but I saw you, & that made our visit VERY special, so thank you & all your staff for a magical day, my Birthday present from my daughter! Yours,
Caroline
Good morning. Enjoying your weekly blog as usual. Do you know if the Highclere Christmas Special will be broadcast in the USA? Thanks very much and Happy Christmas!
They have worldwide rights!!! So the answer is I am not sure
Greg, I believe it’s available here in US on YouTube. Just just watched a snippet and some of the Highclere staff were filmed wearing masks, so it has to be current, Merry Christmas everyone !
Yes this time has been so overwhelmingly hard-on so many. And I can only imagine how it was trying to keep Highclere running. You have such a great dedicated staff just keep up the good fight and hopefully for all of us all around the world things will get back to normal somewhat as much as it can in 2021. Best to you and your staff and family.
And best wishes to you too
I shall endeavour to seek out your documentary here in Canada – I very much enjoyed your book last year. Your efforts and adaptability during this almost unprecedented time are motivating and life affirming. Happy Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you and your family – thank you
Please let me know if you find the documentary in Canada. [email protected]. Thank you so much.
I will
Your lovely and thoughtful reflection on this year is heartwarming, calming and reassuring. ❤️
If it gives you comfort, Highclere has had other plague years and survived. The merriest Christmas imaginable to you, yours and your staff. By the way, I got your latest Christmas book. It’s absolutely beautiful and conveys your beautiful home and its history. Not to mention the recipes!
Thank you so much! Happy Christmas to you
Dear Lady Carnarvon,
You have a truly wonderful team, and it is a testament to your humor, graciousness, and intelligence that you all share in all the work. That, in my humble estimation, is the true definition of team work. Roll up your sleeves and at least give it try. I love the smiles, the dogs, the mud, and “Singing and dancing” in the rain. It does help to try and stay positive, as difficult as that is on some days. Well done.
Will the documentary be available for viewing in the USA? I would so love to see it, as I have followed your Instagram posts and stories, and I refer to my copy of “Christmas at Highclere” so very often.
Good luck in the days ahead, and I hope you and the team continue to stay well and healthy. You have helped many face the enormous challenges of this pandemic. Thank you.
Best regards,
Charlotte Merriam Cole
A global world and one to share most safely through social media – for all of us in our own homes – than goodness for the camaraderie of social media
Lady Carnarvon,
Thank you for reminding us that in times of terrible stress, whether the pandemic or just plain ol’ life’s burdens, we can look at our Christmas glass as half full. The world will emerge with different values and needs, and the ability to help each other more generously, I hope.
We in the US are currently witnessing science’s gift to us at the end of a maddening year – the vaccine to help us stave off Covid-19. What a gift!
May your Christmas season be filled with hope, justice for all, and love.

I am looking forward to watching the television production and have enjoyed reading the book. Maintaining a good sense of humour is the best remedy and definitely helps to keep spirits high when working hard. Best wishes for a wonderful Christmas and I will to visit in the New Year…hopefully when life returns to more normality. Best wishes.
Hello Lady Carnarvon.
Carry on Highclere now seems most appropriate.
Looking forward to your piece to camera on Wednesday and informed many friends.
Hoping to get a group together to visit Highclere next Christmas / afternoon tea with those from WIGGINS TEAPE. We worked together in the mid 90’s when you did the audit and you said these accounts are beyond me.
Sadly out usual Christmas venue now finished so I must endeavor to encourage many to make Highclere a Christmas jolly.
Notice your tree is 2 foot shorter this year.
regards
I think it is as tall as last year!
Good Morning Lady Carnarvon,
I so enjoyed today’s blog. It put me in high spirits thinking of y’all playing pranks and tricks on each other. Making lemon aide of out lemons for sure. Hopefully with the vaccine coming out in high numbers, we will see our world open up again. Highclere will be on top of my “to visit” lists when we are traveling again!!!
Merry, Merry Christmas,
Pam
Look forward to seeing you !
Dear Lady Carnarvon
It’s been such a hard year for us all .
My friend and I were very lucky to be able to visit you all and have afternoon tea in July for her birthday. What a fantastic day we had the weather was very kind to us and so we could walk around the gardens which are amazing. We would love to see it at Christmas so hopefully next year we will.
I am looking forward to watching you all on the Tv show this week .
Wish you all a merry Christmas and a much better new Year
Best Regards
Jan Chapman
I think the sense of humour comes through –
My sister just sent me DOWNTON ABBEY mugs. Of course, they feature your home. I’ll never be able to visit but VISIT. But watch the program and look forward to your blog. FAWLTY TOWERS . I tell friends, listen closely and HANG ON! My daughter and I would “talk fawlty towers “. Manuel..”always you hit me”.
This has certainly been a challenging year for all of us, but let us hope the new year brings an end to the difficulties. Christmas at Highclere must be a very special and magical time, and I envy those who are able to visit. Living in the states, I am hoping the ITV documentary will be aired here, I would love to see it. In the meantime, I have done something I’ve wanted to do for quite some time – ordered your book “Christmas at Highclere”, to enjoy during this holiday season. Thank you for another wonderful blog, they do so brighten up my week!
Thank you so very much
Merry Christmas, Nothing to add. just be safe
You too – caution is the by-word
is there any way to watch this special online (from America)
I know they have “worldwide rights” .. I will try to find out
Dear Lady Carnarvon,
You have been such an inspiration during these challenging and difficult times. Indeed, “Laughter is the best medicine.” I am enjoying your lovely book “Christmas at Highclere” and hope to view the television production, if available here in the states. Best wishes for a very merry Christmas to you and all your incredible team!
How very kind – I so enjoyed writing it the book too
Good Monday again Lady Carnarvon,
Thank you again for another lovely, informative and relatable write up. So encouraging to know that so many of us are able to put personal skills to work for ourselves and with safety precautions for others as well. Really hard to imagine how doctors, nurses, hospital staff, teachers, scientists and so many others have managed to keep their lives going and their non stop pace up as like you I feel more tired given the extra physical & mental work we all have had to take on given this horrid pandemic. You are so correct in that humor and dancing in the rain can certainly help anyone boost up a bit during a down time.
SO thrilled for you and Lord Carnarvon, your staff and those fortunate enough to purchase tickets and visit that Highclere is once again able to welcome guests! Given that news and the news of the film being broadcast there this Wednesday there in England. I will certainly be looking to find if it will be broadcast here in the USofA one day as I would sorely love to view it!
As I am finishing up decorating for our Christmas time I have your wonderful Christmas At Highclere Book on one of our tables and one of your ornaments on our tree!
Best wishes to you and your families and staff for as Merry as a Christmas possible given this Covid Christmas.
Remain well,

How very kind – Happy Christmas to you and your family
Hello Lady Carnarvon
It certainly has been a year we would rather not have had but I think the biggest thing to come out of this pandemic is our good humour and our ability to work as a team and get on with the job. We have weathered the storm of dark and terrible days but we have also seen the very best of people.
The medical staff around the world have worked without regard for their personal safety and did it day in and day out. This not only showed their dedication but set an example to us all of the very best in human beings and of their profession as a whole. I cannot praise them enough and I think we all owe them a debt of gratitude.
It is lovely to read your blog especially about the lady filming in her slippers! Great to hear Highclere is once again receiving visitors, it would be so uplifting to get back to normal and looking forward to better things next year.
Christmas is soon upon us so a very Merry Christmas and a bright and happy 2021. I hope you Lady Carnarvon and your husband and family enjoy a wonderful Christmas together.
Joy Roebig
A very happy Christmas to you as well – thank you
Dear Lady Carnarvon,
I cannot tell you how very much I enjoy your blog each Monday which brings such beautiful photos of you, your team and, of course, Highclere. The challenginging times have been a trial for many in fact I write you today from the hospital-no not Covid thank goodness, but will have a heart procedure tomorrow. So I have more time to write a message. You are amazing with how you cope in these times always with an eye to the future. One day when we can travel again I hope to visit as I have cousins not too far away. Staying busy, staying positive and laughing every day will get us through. You are so right about humor.
Bless you and your family this Christmas season. Best wishes in the New Year.
Happy Christmas,
Susan Mainwaring, Naples, FL
(Mainwaring no relation to Dad’s Army that I know)
Take care and wishing you well! Here is to the New Year..
Undeniably, 2020 has been a year for acquiring new coping skills…and in some cases, resurrecting old skill sets.
We have been isolating at a new (read that “old”) home in the Virginia mountains. I’ve rediscovered all manner of handyperson skills, like wiring electrical lighting fixtures—something that I will attempt in the US where our current runs at 120 volts, but would not advise in the UK where an electrical mistake could be twice as shocking 😉
Happy holidays
Good idea – not to!!! I have seen more drains than expected
Dear Lady Carnarvon,
I’ve only recently signed up to your blog and I’m so enjoying them especially the one today. I started reading your book ‘Christmas at Highclere’ at the beginning of December, what a lovely way to start the build up to Christmas! My husband is hoping I’ll try some of the recipes!!
Here’s looking forward to a better year and being able to visit one of my favourite places….Highclere.
Lots of Christmas blessings,
Julie Lynch
Thank you – happy cooking !
Another good read this Monday morning. You certainly have a fantastic team working around you!
Thank you for the reminder to keep laughing through it all. Certainly the best medicine these days as here in USA we’re heading into some grim times – even though the first vaccines are arriving to be administered. One question. I live in Washington state of USA and have never heard of ITN. What do those letters stand for?
They stand for Independent Television News. ITV and BBC are both contributing programmes to BRITBOX which is a more global platform.
I enjoy reading your blog every week!
I have learned in seasons of much suffering the most beautiful fragrance has the possibility to emerge from our hearts if we allow the hardship to do it’s work in us.
This fragrance include love, compassion and an incredibly new understanding towards the pain going on in others.
Like a great wine, whose grapes not only endure intense crushing (where they don’t look like grapes anymore), they are put in dark barrels … sometimes for years … until the most stunning and vibrant wine emerges! A transformation has occurred. A once beautiful grape has now become a wine!
2020 will be remembered as crushing. We haven’t yet seen the wine that is coming. The waiting feels dark.
Your stories in this crushing year have blessed me. Thank you for writing and sharing your journey.
My prayer is we all emerge from this pandemic more compassionate, more giving and more tender towards others – and approaching each moment with more humor!
I personally need more humor in my life! A dose of castle humor would be good for my soul.
Maybe add more video clips of these real life moments in your Instagram story.
I enjoy real life video moments far better than any professionally produced video. Especially when they involve your pups (we have three doodles)!
With these impromptu video clips we get to see right into the heart of those at Highclere!
Happy Monday!
May God restore all that was taken in 2020 and may the castle continue to shine as the majestic beauty that it is!
With love, Lori from California!
Thank and I think by chance the imperfection of the Instagram videos reflect the life we all muddle through. WE are muddling this Friday with Santa Claus arriving to try our cocktails again on Instagram at 9pm UK time. Then we end singing – or one person here – Silent Night so I hope in all of our own homes we can sing together
Such a personal note today- the title you chose was the name of my business that I closed due to the Pandemic. However, I grew up hearing the stories of the Influenza Epidemic, Polio Epidemic, and other disasters that swept through the world.
Thank you for sharing the Highclere journey and the fun you and your staff have had with the filming. I hope it airs in the USA or at least through an online portal. So many of us have learned to enjoy opera, theatre, meetings and social functions through online portals this year.
Best wishes to all in the days ahead. I’ve missed a few of your posts due to hurricanes and power outages. However, I do hope the end of 2020 brings peace and health for all of us. Such excitement has been generated as the first doses of the Vaccine have begun to be distributed here in the USA. We can hope this is the beginning of better management of public health and creating a new life for all of us on this “Big Blue Marble”.
Again, on a personal note, I find it so refreshing that you share your adventures with the pigs and other chores on the estate. Having grown up with cattle, horses and dogs I remember the 24/7 schedule of management. The only pigs/hogs we had were wild and hunted. I admire your dedication to Highclere and how the family has adapted in such an emergency.
Best wishes for a safe, healthy and wonderful New Year; may 2021 bring blessings to all at Highclere.
How very kind you are and I am so sorry about your business. We have had enough of natural disasters -My film viewing over Christmas is going to be entirely upbeat this Xmas- nothing frightening, just love and hope and laughter
Dear Lady Carnarvon,
It’s only recently that a friend recommended your wonderful blog to me and I’ve discovered your equally wonderful book, “Christmas at Highclere”. And yet your blog already brightens my week and I’ve started to “up” my Christmas and feasted on the White Onion and Truffle Soup.
This year, family and friends will gather together via Zoom, but we can still toast the year past and look forward to new beginnings!
Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones,
Tatjana Kruse
Thank you so much and that is my son’s favourite soup!
Come sickness and health, Highclere still stands!
Just about – feeling a tad tired!
Dear Lady Carnarvon and Highclere staff,
2020 has been an unforgettable year but then again it lead me to you and all the delightful posts and videos you have made!! Thank you for today’s post-a bright spot in my day in the USA! We are all looking forward to the promise and possibilities of 2021! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and all your families,
Karen Mc
There is much to look forward to!
Lady Carnarvon,
Thanks so much for all your support through this ever changing leap year. Humorous moments have helped a great deal and your wonderful stories. I will be lighting a candle for a dear friend who passed in July. Also, I give thanks for those blessings we have had this year. Warm wishes to yourself, team, family and friends. For a new 2021 filled with hope and peace.
Agreed for us all!
After our housekeeper moved south to get out of the cold Ohio winter weather, the housekeeping chores fell upon me. Since her move in late February we have been in a somewhat lockdown due to my immunocompromised physical state. I clean ¼ of the house each day with Friday’s and the weekends off. I quilt as a hobby and have made 7 full sized quilts since March along with multiple sets of placemats and napkins. Our oldest son was let go from his job due to the Corona Virus and has returned home to live with us. Life has definitely thrown a few changes our way as it has to you. We all learn to change with the times and do what is necessary to keep life as normal as possible. Laughter is one of the best ways to cope with these weird times. I appreciate your Monday blogs as your writing is so interesting and insightful. My I wish you and all of yours a Blessed and Wonderful Christmas. Stay safe and healthy.
I love your planning! all best wishes and I hope your son finds a good job in the New Year
Lady Carnarvon,
Thank you so much for your reminder of the hilarious “Are You Being Served?” and “Fawlty Towers!” Humor gets us through difficulties so many times. The facial expressions of the characters said it all! My sons would have to include Monty Python on that list. I, however, admit to watching the grittier “Prime Suspect” (with Helen Mirren) and “Silent Witness.” I was thrilled to read about another Downton Abbey movie sequel. Will they be filming at Highclere soon?
Merry Christmas and Happy Boxing Day!
i would add in all your choices too. Quite a agree
This too shall pass, and it will make us stronger people…
I hope so!!!!
Dear Lady Carnarvon,
All of us are COVID weary and anxious to have some semblance of our normal lives back. Reading your blog starts off my week right and I feel cheered up. I hope PBS televises your ITN opening of Highclere. I watch anything Highclere that I can find!
Has anyone besides Her Majesty The Queen and I think “Bertie” visited Highclere? It used to be such a huge occasion. In normal times, do they still visit people’s estates for a weekend?
Sending you Christmas blessings from Hawaii!
Ada
We have been most fortunate to welcome quite a few royalty today and over centuries
Dear Lady Carnarvon,
Thank you for another wonderful and uplifting blog. I understand from my London friends Wednesday is yet another set of shelter in place orders. We shall all get through this time. Hope to get to Highclere Castle in 2021. Hope you and the remaining staff all have a very Merry Christmas and most best wishes for the New Year! Keep that gin flowing!!!
Warmest wishes,
Iris Butler
Thank you – the gin is a moment to savour and we are doing an Instagram live for Christmas this Friday 18th with Santa Claus (9pm Highclere time)
Dear Lady Carnarvon,
Thank you and all those who work at Highclere for all their hard work during this very stressful time. As a side note, I’m a big fan of Grace and Favour (Are You Being Served? Again!) after young Mr. Graces passing, and all of the store staff are now farmers. All the best,

Happy Christmas from Snow Valley Farm, Maryland! You have a knack of making life on the estate relatable to my own. 2020 began with the promise of a new knee only to lead to 8 months of complications and three additional surgeries during the height of the pandemic. Throughout this ordeal my darling wife dove in head first to keep our little hobby farm up and running. From caring for the horses, sheep and mini cows to tending to 100s of Christmas trees, Joanna kept it all going while taking on the additional roles of virtual teacher, principal and lunch lady for our home bound middle schoolers. She certainly deserves a medal for her efforts, as do so may others this looong year. Thanks for another great blog!!
Dear Lady Carnarvon:
Enjoyed reading your Monday blog.
Appreciate all you and your staff due to share Highclere with everyone.
I hope to be able to view the upcoming special on our local PBS station.
Until next week, stay healthy and safe.
Perpetua Crawford
Ah, the Four Candles skit is still my absolute fave.
God bless you and everyone at Highclere this blessed season.
Dear Lady Carnarvon,
Thank You for an uplifting blog and I am touched by your concern of all especially the film industry. My daughter is in it and it has completely shut down due to Covid. No worries though, she is resourceful and is applying to Law school. We have to be flexible when times are difficult and make necessary adjustments. She will study Entertainment Law…
My husband surprised me for my 50th birthday a visit to Highclere
for a lecture about Capability Brown. We had a lovely visit on May 17, 2016…. I was absolutely delighted to spend the day touring the your beautiful home and grounds. Can we purchase items from the gift shop and have them sent to the USA?
I have all your books and would love to add the Christmas one to my collection.
Also, will Highclere ever open for overnights. I would love to spend more
time there?
Have a Happy Christmas and a Prosperous 2021!
A big fan from the States

I love reading your blog, am so looking forward to watching the programme, wishing everyone at Highclere A Merry Christmas and a much better 2021
Lady Carnarvon, Through you blog, Instagram and podcast we can all be together at Highclere Castle for a Christmas gathering. Thank you for making this happen. Christmas Blessings To All, Cheryl
A most Happy Holiday Season to you all. ‘Will be singing Silent Night on Friday, home “alone” here in Greece, but “together” with the Highclere Family! May all be well and stay safe.
Thank you
I enjoy your videos on Instagram.
A sense of humor is key in any situation!
Happy Christmas!
Thank you so much
I very much appreciate your Christmas at Highclere book and look forward to watching the television program. But more than that, I appreciate how you and the staff at Highclere continue to creatively carry on in the face of difficult circumstances and share with rest of us the beauty and serenity of the Castle which, it is abundantly clear, you all love so very much. Your optimistic and cheerful posts help us navigate these stressful times and look forward to better days. Thank you.
Thank you
Dear Lady Carnarvon,
As I type this, the Lowcountry of Georgia, USA that encompasses Savannah down to Brunswick, received their first shipment of COVID vaccine yesterday and immediately started administering it to the first wave of recipients that are our brave health care workers. What a miracle this is to have this vaccine just in nine and a half months’ time after lockdown! What a wonderful Christmas gift! This past year feels/seems so surrealistic; like an episode from “The Twilight Zone.” I so admire your perseverance along with so many other business owners who have been able to brave these past months. Tourism in Savannah along with it’s museums have been dealt a hard blow like so many other towns around the world.
Thank you for your weekly blog. It is fascinating to read about all that goes on at Highclere from feeding the pigs to getting ready to receive visitors in your lovely home. It sounds like you have a good game plan for relaxing and reviving during these holidays. Take care of you.

Hello from Newark, DE
I so enjoy your Blog. I feel I know the Castle well being one of the US people who loved
“Downton Abbey”. I love all your story’s. We here in the US are having trying times but hopefully with President Elect Biden the country will once again be the country I have known for the
past 81 years.
What is the Highclere Book?
Hi team. Any chance of viewing your ITN Ch 4 Christmas special via Instagram? Viewing from Australia entails getting a VPM network (so the Ch 4 site says)
I am asking!
Dear Lady C, I have a snow globe of Highclere Castle on a dining room shelf. It was given at a movie premiere for the DA movie! Love it! Better times ahead! Merry Christmas! Karen NJ
Lady Carnarvon, from all what I have heard I have got to get your book, Christmas At Highclere. I have your outstanding book At Home At Highclere and I know Christmas At Highclere will be great as well. With Kind Regards, Cheryl
You are the kindest!
Dear Lady Carnarvon,
a very late reply, as being somewhat busy, I have only just got round to reading your blog this week, but have the wonderful advantage of having seen the “Christmas at Highclere” program on ITV. You and your staff are fabulous, the feeling of warmth and joy emanated from the TV! There was a real sense of good tidings and the Christmas displays are wonderful. I expect I will say it again next week, but a very Merry Christmas to you, your family and staff and to everyone in the Monday club.
Jane Bentley
Thank you so much !

Lady Carnarvon, On your Instagram today the photo is picture perfect. I do not think any one could beat this front door entry way. It would make a great Christmas card, maybe with all of your dogs. With All Best Wishes, Cheryl
Thank you – I think we could make some new cards..
Lady Carnarvon, I was on a web. site called Royal Responses, the person posted a Christmas card he or she had received from you a few weeks back. It is a stunning card. The artist did a great job of capturing Highclere Caste, the dogs and snowman. Did you design the card and is the artist local to your area. Beautiful! With Kinds Regards To You, Cheryl
You are kind – it came from my Christmas book cover!
